This is my moon and stars, Angelique (11), who “booked” me for a portrait session and paid with making me coffee and breakfast, it was a good deal, so naturally I took the deal 😉

When shooting little ladies, it is important to shut down the body language, as opposed to ladies, where we open up body language to show sensuality.

These are my favourite little lady poses, that still show innocence and cuteness:

Today is a very special day for me. I am celebrating 5 years stroke survival. Today 5 years ago, my whole life was turned upside down in the blink of an eye;

For 5 years, I have not been able to walk on my own,
For 5 years, I have had no use of my left arm,
For 5 years, I have fought my inner demons to adapt and move forward.
For 5 years, I have conquered my fears, my urge to give up,

Today – Here I am, adapted, smiling, incredibly passionate about my studio and my clients – and I have no more tears, only love and gratitude for all my blessings.

Today, I am a survivor and warrior woman, and I determine my path to happiness and success.

Today, I celebrate, because life is good, I am alive and I am doing things that all the doctors said I would never do.

This is why, my mission is to empower women to embrace their own beauty through my portrait photography. Today, I feel beautiful and strong and happy.

Wishing you all a beautiful day.

Much love

My boudie babe – Laken from yesterday’s session

I never do sneak peeks before a client’s viewing, because I want to keep the magic going and I want my clients to have first sight of their portraits before posting. Here I am making an exception a) because I love it and b) because it will be a while still till Raaesa sees her final edited images.

This is Raaesa, and she is beautiful!
And this is my new posing wall, I didn’t Stand after all for this series, my nerves got the better of me, but I am love with this moody look and feel on my textured suede wall with directional natural light. It has it’s own look and feel and for me, well I love creating interesting portraits. I will post a flat natural light image next, so you can see the difference in styles.

Book your maternity sessions ladies! I love shooting bumps

Much love

What goes into your viewing:

Your session has come and gone,  I have spent the next few days selecting and hand editing your portraits. This is the day you get to see how everything turned out, and it’s always exciting! My turn around time here is one week from your session, I stick to this because obviously you are as excited as I am to see your images. The magic from your session is still fresh in your head.

Your viewing session is where we decide on what product you will be taking, what sizes, what format. We go through layouts and choose something that you will fall in love with everytime you see it.

Once your order has been placed with my spupplier, it typically takes one week for product to arrive at studio for you to collect. This means there is a two week turn around time from your session to receiving your beautiful portraits, ready to hang in your home. This makes my soul dance, to see my work in print.

Once your session is over, you will have memories to treasure for a lifetime.

And that is how we do it here ladies, come try us for a session

What goes into your editing:

Your session is finished, time for me to download your images, and make a backup of my working file, also a spot check – yip, I nailed it. I do this immediately after, and I am always nervous about every session, I am not sure why a little self doubt creeps in, because after being a professional photographer for ten years, I kind of know what I am doing. So spot check is done, I now leave your file until the next day, so I can view with fresh perspective. My files are huge you know, I shoot in raw, which makes each image around 100mb in my working file. I am up early and excited to do your portrait selection (step 1). I go through each image, looking for consistencies in light, different poses and facial expressions, I give my favourites a rating of 5, and these are the ones I edit for your viewing. Hours later, I have culled and I am down to a portfolio of no less than 20 Images, and it’s looking good. While I am doing portfolio selection, I already know how I am going to edit, and what final product will work best with your images.

I take a break, sometimes until the next day, fresh eyes ready for editing. I use three software programs for this, I begin an editing flow, and every image must go through the same technique, every image is hand edited and this takes around 20 hours, with lot’s of coffee in between and resting my eyes. It’s during my editing workflow, that I see a bit of magic, I see your portraits coming to life and I am always happy in this moment, I sit and reflect how much skill and talent I have acquired over these years, and I am so proud that I am here, in this space to live this life, despite all my challenges. This is all I want to do, it is so beautiful.

Product recommendation done, portraits edited, it’s time for your viewing and I hope you will be pleased and fall in love with your portraits just as I have.

What goes into your portrait session:

It’s a bit of a long read, but you might enjoy it .

So the day has arrived, it’s time for your session. The nerves and the excitement have kicked in. You are greeted first by my two naughty puppies (Spartacus and Leonidas)and one big doggy (Buddy, my protector) Then by me and my stick at the door (I generally stand there waving like a mad woman so you know how to find us). You walk into studio, with your clothes and bags of goodies. It’s a home based studio in the country, it is peaceful and quite so you already feel comfortable. You walk into shooting space and viewing area, where you will see my portraits on display, quite beautiful to look at. By now you have met Tracey, who shows you to our makeup and change room. We are a friendly bunch here, and we love a chat, and the puppies love cuddles. We start off with something to drink (mostly wine to settle the nerves a bit, but we always have coffee and tea or juice too). You put your clothes in makeup room, by now I have studied your body language and my little head is spinning with posing ideas, Tracey has no doubt already figured out how she will do your transformation. We look at what you have brought to wear, and we choose outfits for each sequence of your shoot (and sometimes we only pick one outfit because it is spectacular and it will work for each sequence). I have to ask Tracey to help me remember which outfits go on which background because sometimes I panic and forget. So your wardrobe consult is done, and it’s now time to be pampered. Makeup and hairstyling takes about an hour/hour and a half. Tracey has an amazing way about her, when she does your makeup, you will feel relaxed and beautiful. I generally sit at my workstation editing or marketing, and every now and then I pop in to see how you are doing. Mostly I spy on your body language and by now I have worked out a pose flow for your session. Your hair and makeup looks mind blowing, you feel like a princess, and it’s time to change into your first outfit, now the nerves kick in because it’s showtime. I do a quick test shot to check makeup (the camera takes away about 30%) and then you are seated on our posing couch. I do a few warm up shots to get settings right because I am a natural light photorapher, and obviously this is key for your portraits. This is also a great way for you to get used to how I shoot ( being half paralysed, I have to sit in my chair and use my good leg to move me around, and of course there is no use of my left arm so I’m sure it takes some getting used to). I am quite formal in my approach to posing,  so I give you step by step instructions, until your pose is perfected, and I get my shots. There is a bit of magic for me here because I see everything coming together so beautifully, and I know your portraits will be incredible. So we pose, shoot, pose, shoot. Change outfits, and pose and shoot, pose and shoot, we may change hair style and makeup in between, and pose and shoot, pose and shoot. Until I feel that I have enough of a portfolio to show you at your viewing, which takes place a few days after your session. And that’s a wrap, session is over, you see how easy that is? Oh I might want to mention that it is a lot of fun too, lot’s of laughs and smiles, I am not serious all the time, Tracey also has a fantastic sense of humour and she is amazing throughout  and by the time we are finished, you will feel like a million bucks!

Come try us for a session, let’s create your timeless portraits together, something you can treasure and your loved ones too.
